Ansari Architects

Copywriting · Website development · SEO

A collaborative website rebuild for Ansari Architects, working side by side with Director, Alex Ansari to bring her design vision to life, shape the content around her work and take care of everything needed to move from the old website to the new one.

Alex had the vision, we just helped her bring it to life

This project was a little different from some of the other websites we work on. Alex already knew what she wanted the new Ansari Architects website to look and feel like, with a clear visual direction and a strong sense of how she wanted her work presented.

She didn't need us to come in and redesign it for her. She needed us to help make it happen, so we worked alongside Alex to bring her design to life while collaborating on the content, structure and all the details that sit behind the finished website.

Before

After

Making the work the focus

Alex's work needed to be at the centre of the new website. Rather than filling the site with unnecessary information, the focus was on creating space for the architecture, photography and renders to do much of the talking. With a substantial body of work built up over the years, we worked through how those projects should be presented and how people could move through them without the website getting in the way. Photography and architectural renders were given plenty of space, with enough information alongside them for someone discovering Alex's work for the first time.

Finding the right words to sit alongside the work

While Alex had a clear vision for the design, the content was something we worked through together. We collaborated on the copy across the website, from the individual project descriptions through to the about and contact pages.

We wanted to give people enough information to understand Alex, her approach and the projects they were looking at without over explaining them. The words needed to support the work, not compete with it.

Turning the design into a working website

From there, we worked through the website page by page, turning Alex's design into something that not only looked the way she wanted it, but worked properly too.

The site was built in Squarespace, which Alex was already familiar with from her previous website. Keeping it on the same platform meant she wouldn't need to learn a completely new system and could continue to make updates herself when needed.

There was plenty of back and forth along the way. We'd build, review it together, make adjustments and keep refining. Alex was involved throughout the entire process, right down to the finer details, and the website is better for it.

Then came everything behind the scenes

Getting the website looking right was only part of the job. Before launch, we worked through the basic SEO across the site, including titles and descriptions, image alt text and dedicated service area content.

We also mapped the URLs from Alex's previous website and implemented redirects to the relevant pages on the new site, so existing links didn't suddenly lead nowhere once the new website went live.

Google Analytics was implemented so Alex can see how people are finding and using the website, while Google Search Console was set up so we can monitor how the site is being indexed and appearing in Google Search.

Then came a lot of checking. Desktop, mobile, links, forms and redirects, making sure everything was doing what it was supposed to before and after the new site went live.

A website that feels like Alex

The finished website is personal, highly visual and centred around Alex's work. Her design leads the way, with the content there to tell people what they need to know without taking away from the projects themselves.

And while you can't see it, there's plenty happening behind the scenes too, from redirects and SEO through to analytics and search tracking.

Alex knew what she wanted the website to be, and we knew how to help her get it there. The result isn't a website we designed for Alex. It's one we built with her.
